Recently, China Construction Industry Association announced the list of 2020-2021 China Construction Project Luban Prize. State Grid won 2021 Luban Prize for its 1,000 kV substation project in Zaozhuang, Shandong Province, and 750 kV substation project in Zhangye, Gansu Province.

The 1,000 kV substation in Zaozhuang, Shandong

As a key project in Shandong, the 1,000 kV substation project in Zaozhuang has two sets of 3GVA transformers, four circuits of 1,000 kV outbound lines and four circuits of 500 kV outbound lines in this phase, with an investment of CNY 1.86 billion. The project applied reactive power compensation in the simulated power transmission and the integrated test platform of induced electricity, for the first time in China; and pioneered in researching the setup of the extra-long foundational deformation joints of gas-insulated switchgears. The building information modeling technology was fully applied for refined design, visualization of the station and of construction. To implement green construction, the project saved an investment of CNY 75.25 million by optimizing the layout of the main wiring of 1,000 kV power distribution units. It developed and applied frame capacitors with a single-tower structure, optimized the design scheme of 500 kV power distribution units and relay chambers, saving an area of more than 4,800 square meters.

The 750 kV substation in Zhangye, Gansu

The 750 kV substation project in Zhangye is an important project under the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement on Accelerating the Construction of a Happy New Gansu Province signed between the company and Gansu Provincial government. The project brings together wind and photovoltaic power generation in Hexi region for greater new energy delivery capacity. In this phase, one set of 2.1 GVA transformer, one circuit of 750 kV outbound lines, and six circuits of 330 kV outbound lines were installed, with the investment of CNY 530 million. The project building incorporates the Silk Road culture, Gansu regional characteristics, and industrial architecture, presenting a dignified and time-honored appearance. In the process of project construction, the vortex-induced resonance of the lightning arrester was studied for the first time in China, which obtained the national invention patent; the governance of the out-of-gauge deflection of large-span pipe-type busbars was improved with its key technology playing a leading role in China. The project adopts the design of building information model for standardized management of construction, operation, and maintenance, improving project quality and comprehensive benefits for accurate management of the whole life cycle.

Established in 1987, the biennial Luban Prize is organized and selected by China Construction Industry Association. It is the most prestigious honor for engineering quality in China's construction industry. So far, State Grid's 32 projects have won the laurel.
