BIE hails the Organization of Expo 2019 Beijing

The 165th General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) was held in Paris, France on May 28. Chinese delegation reported on the latest progress of the preparations for the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 Beijing (Expo 2019 Beijing). Officials of the BIE and representatives of the member states warmly congratulated the successful opening of the Expo 2019 Beijing and hailed the organization of the horticultural event.

Chen Zhou, Commissioner General of the Expo 2019 Beijing and Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), said that with the great attention of the Chinese government and full support of the international community, Expo 2019 Beijing opened on April 28 with great success.

“Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech entitled ‘Working Together for a Green and Better Future for All’, calling on all countries to preserve what gives our planet life and embrace green development. The 100 distinct gardens and more than 1,200 species of plants fully showcase the unique horticultural characteristics and regional cultures of different parts of the world. Since its opening one month ago, the expo park has attracted more than 1.5 million spectators and held more than 400 events,” added Chen.

At the Assembly, Liu Dongsheng, Deputy Administrator of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and Peng Hongming, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Flower Association introduced other events since the opening. The Chinese delegation broadcasted a short video about the opening and operation of Expo 2019 Beijing, inviting people around the world to visit the expo park.

Vicente Loscertales, Secretary-General of the BIE, spoke highly of the successful opening of the Expo 2019 Beijing after seven years of careful preparation. “Chinese President Xi Jinping's speech at the opening ceremony of the Expo 2019 Beijing is impressive. The concepts of green development, working together for a better future and building a community with a shared future for mankind advocated by him are of great significance,” said Vicente.

Peter Verdaasdonk, CEO of the Expo 2022 Floriade Almere in Netherlands, praised that China was professional and efficient in organizing the Expo 2019 Beijing, setting an example for other countries to hold the expo.

The Expo 2019 Beijing, 20 years after the Expo 1999 Kunming, is another A1 expo held in China. A total of 110 countries and international organizations and more than 120 non-official exhibitors participated in the Expo 2019 Beijing, reaching a new record among A1 expos. The theme of the Expo 2019 Beijing is “Live Green, Live Better”, and its site is located along the Guishui River at the foot of the Great Wall in Yanqing District, Beijing. Its total planning area is 960 hectares.

Founded in 1928 and headquartered in Paris, the BIE is an intergovernmental organization responsible for coordinating and managing the organization of world expos.
