Tsinghua University inked a partnership with Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings Ltd on Monday. The partners will carry out in-depth cooperation in scientific research, new cultural and creative industries, university students' internships and science education for teenagers.

Tencent will further open its resources and capabilities in cloud computing and artificial intelligence in a bid to help with the university's fundamental scientific research.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, Tencent Cloud, its cloud computing arm, has provided massive high-performance computing and storage resources for the university's interdisciplinary Institute of Biomedicine laboratories to facilitate the research and development of drugs for the pandemic. The partners will deepen their cooperation in new culture and creative segments.

Cheng Wu, vice-president of Tencent and CEO of Tencent Pictures and China Literature, said Tencent hopes to work with Tsinghua to explore new scientific research and promote new cultural and creative industries, as well as nurture more talents.

In addition, Tencent will open science laboratories and more internship opportunities for students. The two parties have carried out cooperation in a range of sectors over the past few years, including the joint lab of internet innovation technology, and an interactive media design and technology project.
