The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit 2024 took place from November 14 to 15 in Lima, capital of Peru. Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), led a Chinese entrepreneur delegation to attend the opening ceremony and participate in diverse activities of the summit.

On the morning of November 15, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a written speech under the title “Keeping Abreast of the Trend of the Times and Jointly Promoting Prosperity Around the World” at the summit. Members of the Chinese entrepreneur delegation earnestly learned the guiding principles reflected in this important speech at the earliest possible time. All shared the view that China’s proposals put forward by President Xi Jinping on building an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future and new, open and higher-standard economic systems fully reflect China’s sense of responsibility to firmly advance high-standard opening up, promote economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region, and continuously push forward economic globalization. Meanwhile, they demonstrate the sagaciousness and demeanor of the leader of a major country. Inspired by the speech, the participating Chinese entrepreneurs pledged to resolutely follow through on President Xi’s important instructions, put into practice the innovative and pioneering spirit, proactively leverage the role of business communities, and make greater contributions to fostering an open Asia-Pacific economy and boosting world economic growth.

At noon of November 15, at the invitation of the Peruvian side, Ren Hongbin attended a panel discussion on regional integration and engaged in discussions with representatives on topics such as Asia-Pacific integration and global industrial and supply chain cooperation. He expounded on the positive position and specific measures of the Chinese business community regarding trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, as well as the open cooperation on Asia-Pacific supply chains. He emphasized that the business communities of the Asia-Pacific region should uphold openness and cooperation, enhance connectivity, and pursue innovation-driven development, collectively advancing regional economic integration. Ren welcomed the active involvement of Asia-Pacific business leaders in the second China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) and the efforts to establish stable and resilient regional and global industrial and supply chain systems, to better contribute to the economic development of both the Asia-Pacific and the wider world.

The APEC CEO Summit 2024, under the theme “People, Business, Prosperity”, attracted over 1,000 representatives from political and business circles across APEC economies. Participants had in-depth exchanges of views on topics such as global finance, energy transition, healthcare, and sustainable development.

During his attendance at the summit, Ren Hongbin also attended the inauguration ceremony of Chancay Port in Peru at the project site upon invitation, where he delivered remarks during subsequent exchange activities. He also led the delegation to visit Peruvian electricity distribution company Luz del Sur S.A.A., a second-tier subsidiary of the China Three Gorges Corporation, for investigation.
