On December 9, 2024, the Chinese Mainland-Hong Kong Chambers of Commerce Joint Conference was held in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China. Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), led representatives from local branches of the CCPIT and enterprises in the Chinese mainland to attend the event and delivered a speech. Lo Kam-wing, President of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA), Jonathan Choi Koon-shum, President of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), Steve Chuang, Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) and Agnes Chan Sui-kuen, Chairwoman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), attended the event. Representatives from trade promotion organizations, chambers of commerce, and enterprises in both the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong participated in the event.
In his speech, Ren Hongbin highlighted that the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has made systematic plans for further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernization, which provides new historical opportunities for Hong Kong to better integrate itself into Chinese modernization and achieve more sound development. In light of the new circumstances, members of the joint conference mechanism are encouraged to enhance regular communication and cooperation. They should leverage platforms such as the Business Conference on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development to promote collaborative efforts in innovation and green development between the business communities of the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, to achieve better self-development amid China’s accelerated fostering of new quality productive forces and establishment of a modern industrial system. Going forward, the CCPIT will actively support Hong Kong to participate in and contribute to Belt and Road cooperation, jointly explore third-party markets, and make new progress in boosting economic and trade cooperation between China and the rest of the world; actively support Hong Kong to carry out cooperation in industrial and supply chains with the Chinese mainland and welcome Hong Kong’s business community to engage in the China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE); actively support Hong Kong to strengthen its role as a “super-contact” between the Chinese mainland and foreign countries and play a better role in the country’s opening up.
The joint conference was co-hosted by the CCPIT, the CMA, the CGCC, the FHKI, and the HKGCC. During the conference, trade promotion agencies, chambers of commerce, and corporate representatives from both regions exchanged insights on enhancing the integration of technological innovation industrial and supply chains of the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, accelerating the development of new quality productive forces, leveraging Hong Kong’s strengths as an international city, facilitating bilateral interactions and common development between enterprises in the Chinese mainland and international ones, and promoting Hong Kong’s integration into the development cooperation of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
