From January 13 to 14, the 2025 National Meeting on Trade Promotion and the fifth session of the sixth National Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) was held in Beijing. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the meeting fully implemented the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the second and third plenary sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and the Central Economic Work Conference, and thoroughly put into practice the guidelines of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important video speech at the conference of the 70th anniversary of the CCPIT and the Global Trade and Investment Promotion Summit. It took stock of the trade promotion work in 2024 and arranged the key tasks for 2025. Ren Hongbin, Chairman and Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of the CCPIT, made a work report.
The meeting pointed out that 2024 was a crucial year for fulfilling the goals and tasks in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and was a milestone in the history of the CCPIT. The national trade promotion system acted with firm resolve to implement the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, launched the Party discipline learning and education campaign, ensured strict Party self-governance, enhanced political responsibility, tackled tough issues head-on, coordinated development on three fronts, and made new strides in the high-quality development of the trade promotion cause. All these efforts have made positive contributions to reinforcing the stable performance in foreign trade and foreign investment and boosting economic recovery.
The meeting emphasized that 2025 is the final year for completing the 14th Five-Year Plan, and it is of great significance to ensure better performance in this year’s trade promotion work. The national trade promotion system should pursue progress while ensuring stability, uphold fundamental principles and break new ground, enhance coordination, and handle in a holistic manner the relationship between development and security, work at home and abroad, introducing foreign capital and establishing domestic connections, trade and industry, and business and Party building. They should ensure strict Party self-governance, go all out to make this year’s major events a success, including the China Pavilion in Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan and the third China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE), and stabilize foreign trade and foreign investment through solid steps and multiple measures. Moreover, they should continue to strengthen the foreign-related rule of law, move faster to build high-level application-oriented think tanks, and put in place a “1+5+10” work pattern.
It was emphasized at the meeting that the national trade promotion system should rally more closely around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, acquire a deep understanding of the decisive significance of the Two Affirmations (i.e. the affirmation of Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and the affirmation of the guiding role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era); become more conscious of the need to maintain political commitment, think in terms of the general picture, follow the core leadership of the CPC Central Committee, and act in accordance with its requirements; stay confident in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics; and uphold General Secretary Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole, and uphold the Party Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership. They should work on making new and greater contributions to building China into a stronger country and rejuvenating the Chinese nation on all fronts with the practical actions and results of high-quality development.
Members of the CPC Leadership Group of the CCPIT, responsible people from all departments and directly affiliated organizations of the CCPIT, and principal leaders of CCPIT sub-councils of diverse industries and in all provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps attended the meeting.
