On February 1, EST, the U.S. announced a 10 percent additional tariff on imports from China under the pretext of the fentanyl and other issues. Chinese business community strongly deplores and firmly opposes it.
The U.S.’s unilateral tariff hike gravely violates World Trade Organization rules. Consequently, a vast number of American enterprises and consumers will be the ones to pay for this move, the China-US economic and trade cooperation will be undermined, and the stability of global industrial and supply chains will be adversely affected. Trade and tariff wars have no winners. The wrongdoing by the U.S. side cannot help solve its problems at home, and more importantly, does not contribute to bilateral relations between China and the U.S., still less the world economic growth.
We strongly call on the U.S. side to correct its wrongdoing immediately, work with China in the same direction, and boost cooperation with all countries, thereby fostering an enabling international environment for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries and among business communities all over the world. These efforts will inject more stability and positive energy into global economic development.
