The Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) was launched by King Charles III of the United Kingdom at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in 2020, when he was the Prince of Wales. It is a multilateral business cooperation mechanism in the field of sustainable development, designed to mobilize the efforts of the business community to tackle climate change, protect biodiversity, and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With the joint support and endorsement of President Xi and King Charles III, the CCPIT established the SMI China Council in August 2022.
